&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Jauna lapa&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;Starpkaru posma glezniecību, kuras specifikas aizsākumi meklējami vēl 20. gs. otrās dekādes vidū, var uzskatīt par perioda dominējošo mākslas veidu. 1920. gados noteicošo lomu ieņēma stājglezniecība, kurā centrālā vieta bija eļļas tehnikai, savukārt 1930. gadu nogalē, pieaugot valsts finansiālajam atbalstam, izvērsās arī monumentāli dekoratīvā glezniecība. Glezniecībā ļoti skaidri izpaudās perioda mākslai raksturīgā attīstība – no mēreni izprastām un sintezētām klasiskā modernisma tendencēm līdz dažādā mērā modernizētam jaunreālismam, kas sadzīvoja ar akadēmiski tradicionālāku, klasiskās mākslas mantojumā balstītu pieeju.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Vispārējā specifika un tematika=&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Perioda sākumā, kad glezniecībā ienāca virkne bijušo Rīgas pilsētas mākslas skolas audzēkņu, kas klasiski akadēmiskas izglītības vietā savu rokrakstu bija veidojuši, balstoties uz Rietumeiropas vecmeistaru un jaunākās franču mākslas paraugiem, būtiski samazinājās gadsimtu mijai raksturīgais gleznojuma tuvinājums optiskajai realitātei. Plenēra gaismēna, gaisa perspektīva, apjoma modelējums tika nomainīti ar objektu ģeometrizācijas un deformācijas centieniem, plaknes un līniju ritmu akcentējumu, dažbrīd nosacītu un neitralizētu kolorītu, dažbrīd arī spilgtākiem krāsu kontrastiem. Ar 1920. gadu otro pusi atkal vērojama pakāpeniska tuvināšanās tiešākam vizuālās realitātes tvērumam, vispirms plastiski ”cietākā”, pēc tam gleznieciski ekspresīvākā versijā.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Sižetu un tēmu aspektā perioda jaunums ir laikmeta aktualitātes (Pirmā pasaules kara, strēlnieku cīņu un bēgļu likteņa dramatisms), 1920. gados pirmoreiz plašāk izvēršas arī urbānie motīvi (pilsētas ainavas, krodziņu ainas, kāršu spēlmaņi u.tml.), līdz ar to koriģējot iepriekšējā perioda neoromantismā dominējošo interesi par ”brīvo” dabu. Posma sākumā būtiski pieaug klusās dabas īpatsvars, kas ļauj izvērst eksperimentus ar glezniecisko formu. Mākslinieki turpina gleznot arī ainavas un portretus. 1930. gados pamazām pieaug figurālo kompozīciju loma, īpaši lauku darbu, zvejnieku dzīves u.c. par latviskām atzītu tēmu atainojumā. Autoritārisma gaisotnē pēc 1934. gada palielinās pieprasījums pēc reprezentatīviem portretiem un monumentālās glezniecības, kā arī nacionālās mitoloģijas sižetiem.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Formveides vispārējās iezīmes=&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
20. gs. otrās dekādes nogalē – 1920. gadu sākumā novatoriskākais parādību kopums atklāj atsevišķus ekspresionisma, fovisma, vēlīnā kubisma, pūrisma u.c. strāvojumu elementus. Agrīnā, ekspresionistiski ietonētā fāze izceļas ar dramatiski saspringtiem lineāriem ritmiem un izteiktāku deformāciju, kas pamazām izvēršas dažādā mērā ģeometrizētu formu kārtojumos, tomēr pilnībā nesaraujot saiknes ar priekšmetisko pasauli. Impresionistiskais krāsu dalījums, noskaņu un nianšu kultivēšana, faktūras estetizācija tiek uzskatīti par „vecās” krievu un vācu mākslas pazīmēm; vietā nāk objektu tuvinājums ģeometriskām formām, nereti ar akcentētām šķautnēm, tonālie un reizēm arī krāsu kontrasti (epizodiskajos fovisma uzplaiksnījumos). Modernisma iespaidu fāzē gleznojums ir samērā plāns, triepiens tiek reducēts, lai arī netiek slēpts un izlīdzināts kā akadēmiskās mākslas paraugos. Vairāk gludi izlīdzināta gleznojuma paraugu redzams jaunās lietišķības plastiski pacietajā stilistikā, kur lielāka loma ir līnijai un siluetam. Līdz ar 1930. gadiem tipisko jaunreālisma uzplaukumu strauji pieaug krāsas slāņa biezums eļļas glezniecībā, irdenas faktūras loma noskaņas radīšanā, paletes naža lietojums un uzskatāmi triepiena struktūras demonstrējumi. Formas meklējumu īpatsvars Latvijā mītošo krievu un vācu gleznotāju sniegumā ir krietni mazāks, jo viņi pamatā piekopa 20. gs. sākumam raksturīgo akadēmiskā reālisma, impresionisma un simbolisma tradīciju sintēzi.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Attīstības posmi=&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Perioda sākumu nosaka glezniecības reformatoru avangards – Rīgas mākslinieku grupa pārstāvji (J. Grosvalds, J. Kazaks, V. Tone, R. Suta, K. Ubāns, N. Strunke, O. Skulme, u.c.), daļa no viņiem piedalījušies pulciņa ”Zaļā puķe” (1914–1915) centienos, izglītojušies Krievijas mākslas skolās un iepazinuši arī turienes mākslas krātuvēs atrodamos modernās mākslas paraugus (Pola Sezana, Andrē Derēna, Pablo Pikaso, Anrī Matisa darbus) (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Paul Cézanne, André Derain, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse&amp;#039;&amp;#039;).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Apmēram līdz 1920. gadam kubisma iedvesmoto formu vienkāršojumu un ģeometrizāciju pavada izteiktāks ekspresionistisks dramatisms, kas 1920. gadu sākumā transformējas pūrisma un neoklasicisma ietonētā virzienā, sasaucoties ar plašāku vispāreiropeisko kontekstu, ko mākslinieki arī iepazīst klātienē savos pirmajos Rietumeiropas ceļojumos. Kompozīcijas kļūst harmoniskākas un stabilākas, vairāk akcentējot gleznieciskās formas elementu saspēles. Gleznotāji atklāj arī individuāli specifiskus interešu lokus – tā Uga Skulme kļūst par izteiktāko Pablo Pikaso neoklasicisma adeptu, Ģederts Eliass pievēršas fovisma spilgto krāslaukumu saattiecinājumiem, Romans Suta transformē franču pūrisma vēsmas, bet Niklāvs Strunke pietuvojas itāliešu mākslā tipiskajam metafiziskās glezniecības virzienam.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1920. gadu vidū izceļama arī jaunās lietišķības parādībām tuva epizode (U. Skulme, A. Beļcova, K. Miesnieks), kad objektu tēlojumā ieviešas akcentēts lineārisms, apjoma modelējums un detaļu klāsts. Turpmākajos gados vērojama arvien pieaugoša atteikšanās no ģeometrizācijas tendencēm, plastiski mīkstāks un irdenāks gleznojums, kādreizējiem modernisma adeptiem atrodot savu individuālo stilu (V. Tones meditatīvie portreti, K. Ubāna liriskā ainavu glezniecība, L. Svempa krāšņās, pastozās klusās dabas, Ģ. Eliasa dramatiski piesātinātās lauku darbu kompozīcijas u.c.).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1930. gados uzplaukušo interesi par gleznieciskajām kvalitātēm sekmēja arī 1927. gadā Rīgā notikusī beļģu mākslas izstāde, kas rosināja pētīt krāsas un faktūras efektus un īpaši ietekmēja jaunos māksliniekus, kas uzsāka savu jaunradi šai periodā (Eduards Kalniņš, Valdis Kalnroze, Nikolajs Breikšs u.c.). Modernāku tendenču turpinātājiem šinī posmā jāpieskaita beļģu skolas konsekventākais adepts Jānis Tīdemanis, kā arī fovisma principu sekotāji Kārlis Neilis un Leonīds Āriņš.&lt;br /&gt;
